With heavy hearts we must announce the passing of Thomas Howard Dorward. Tom and Marla opened the Halifax Folklore Centre in June of 1971, and over the last 54 years have become a staple for local musicians on the east coast music scene. Tom became a revered name in restoration and lutherie across the country and beyond. His loss will be felt deeply not only by us at the shop, but by everyone who has walked through our doors. The shop will continue to run in his absence, keeping up the legacy he and Marla built to support the local music scene and musicians abroad. Noah Tye, who has been studying under Tom for the last 15 years, will step up into his very large shoes at the repair bench. Devin Fox will be running the front end of the store, and Marla will continue to captain the ship.
Much love,
-The Halifax Folklore Centre
